The saffron party has now appointed central observers to ensure the smooth transition into the formation of a new government in the key states it has won the elections. The team will comprise Union Home Minister Amit Shah and former Jharkhand CM and the party’s national vice-president Raghuvar Das for UP, while Defence minister Rajnath Singh and senior BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi will look after Uttarakhand.
Governments were to be formed in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. For the latter, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Kiren Rijiju will be appointed as observers. For Goa, the party has picked Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and MoS, Animal Husbandry, L Murugan.
New government’s will be sworn in only after Holi. But in some states, new MLAs have already taken their oath. As of now, none of the states have announced their respective Chief Ministers. in Uttarakhand, there’s no official word on the CM’s face so far. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami had lost the Uttarakhand battle despite BJP sweeping the election, while in Goa, there are several candidates vying for the top job.
Meanwhile, Goa BJP president Sadanand Shet Tanavade said that the new government in the state will be sworn in after Holi, which falls on March 18, along with the three other states. “Swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Goa would be conducted post-Holi celebrations along with the other three states where BJP has won a majority,” Tanavade has given off a formal statement. It will be the job of the central observers and the co-observers to ensure that leadership is placed well in the respective legislature in the respective states where BJP has won with a thumbs-up.
