Archer Deepika Kumari Returns To Paris Olympics 2024
Deepika Kumari is the world’s finest archer who won a silver medal for India in a recently held world cup in Shanghai. Deepika Kumari now returns to the Target Olympic Podium Scheme core group for the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024. The Sports Ministry officially announced this news on Monday. In December 2022 Deepika Kumari entered the stage of motherhood after giving birth because of which she missed the entire season. After coming back from break she is doing well both on national and international levels. Deepika Kumari is a three-time winner at the Olympics and is a 29-year-old recurve archer who won a medal in the Asia Cup held earlier this year.
TOPS Core Group
Last year in Bangkok at the Asian Qualifying Tournament Dheeraj Bommadevara won a silver medal and qualified for the men’s event. On June 15 and 16 2024, the only remaining qualifying tournament will be held in Antalya, Turkey. The sports ministry stated that another Indian archer Mrinal Chauhan entered the Target Olympic Podium Scheme developmental group whereas Pravin Jadhav has been shifted from the Development to the core group and Ashok who is a para-powerlifter has been introduced in the TOPS Core group.

3 New Squash Players
During the 133rd meeting, The Mission Olympic Cell introduced squash players to the TOPS Development group including Velavan Senthikumaar, Anahat Singh, and Abhay Singh. These players are added to this group for their training for the Los Angeles Olympics which is going to be held in the year 2028. The Los Angeles organizing committee in October 2023 enlisted squash in the 2028 version of the games.
The sports ministry stated, “ Looking at India’s performance in squash in the past two years, especially at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, The Mission Olympic Cell decided to introduce three squash players in the TOPS Development group, to help them provide all necessary assistance to prepare for the international event”.
