Another Covid-19 Wave Sees Boost For E-Commerce Platforms

As Covid-19 variants rock the life of commerce, the economy is seeing an e-commerce boom like never before. Daily sales are skyrocketing and people are choosing to buy more from online stores than visiting physical stores themselves.

Confirmed reports from various media sources are saying that commodities like daily grocery, packaged food, beverages, soap, and hygiene products. These sales are likely to go up even further if states are forced to impose lockdown or harsher restrictions in the wake of the rising cases of Covid-19.

Various media reports have said that store representatives have themselves confirmed that limited operating hours at physical stores and consumers staying indoors have led to a big jump in online sales. They said there has been a 10-15 percent spike in online sales across categories, with high demand for chocolates and beverages.

 With the surge of demand, every retailer is ready with their lot. Most online platforms are likely to see higher sales momentum during the ongoing third Covid wave in the country. According to the report, products that are in high demand include packaged foods, sanitizers, hygiene products, and N95 masks. Meanwhile, the demand for chocolates and beverages has doubled over the past few days.

India has reported a huge number of daily cases rising in the last few days. Owing to the fact that Omicron is more transmittable disease, the transmission rate would be higher. Since yesterday, figures have arisen by 56 per cent. The number of daily cases, fuelled by the more transmissible Omicron variant, is likely to see a rapid rise in January. In view of the situation, several states have imposed restrictions in order to prevent an overwhelming rise in cases. The ones really ruling the roost are platforms like Amazon India, BigBasket, Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart
