Anil Deshmukh has been caught and is now being questioned in a money-laundering scheme amount to Rs. 100 crores. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also put in a request with a special court to record the questioning process of Deshmukh.
The former Maharashtra Home Minister is also going to be questioned over his involvement in an extortion case that had former top Mumbai cop Param Bir Singh in the center point. Singh had accused former Maharashtra Home Minister Deshmukh of missing his post.
Mr. Singh had accused Deshmukh of being a money collector. Like in the Bollywood movies, Deshmukh had forced Singh to collect Rs. 100 crore every month from bars and restaurants in Mumbai. Singh made these allegations when he was removed from the police commissioner post. Deshmukh had denied all the allegations leveled against him.
The questioning however does happen to post an FIR that was filed against Deshmukh whose associates will also be questioned. On November 1, 2021, Deshmukh was placed under arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a Rs 100 crore money laundering case pertaining to the alleged posting and transfer of the officials.
But at the end of November, Singh was forced to take back his formal complaint. Mr. Singh had also written to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and was being pressurized to take back this complaint, while he was appealing to the Supreme Court. Apparently, the new DGP Sanjay Pandey had said that if he took back his complaint, things would be fine for them.
The apex court has supported Mr. Singh’s case and asked him to join the investigation itself. It has also issued notices to the Maharashtra government and CBI on behalf of Mr. Singh. Suspectedly fictitious cases were made against Mr. Singh to counterattack his claims of corruption and misconduct against the then Home Minister and senior NCP leader Anil Deshmukh. Against Mr. Singh were almost six cases of corruption and extortion filed after he wrote a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray
