After some shocking exits, Lovlina, Kamapreet stand out at the Tokyo Games with their solid performance

At this point of time, with the way things are turning in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics, it will not be wrong to say that there is not a lot of hope left for India’s medal tally to get a two-digit debut as claimed by the Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju ahead of the games. 

Having said that, one can also not diminish the light of some fabulous sportsperson who has taken the world by storm. One of the dark horses of the Indian boxing Lovlina Borgohain has managed to secure another medal for India after defeating third seeded in the quarter finals of Boxing. 

Even though the whole country is already celebrating thinking about the terrific performance by the 23-year-old boxer, she does not plan on stopping just here as she wishes to grab the gold at the Tokyo Olympics. 

She has already secured a medal by reaching the semi- finals of the Women’s Welterwieght category. The worst outcome here can be her being satisfied with a bronze medal but she does not plan on limiting herself to that. She displayed class when she ousted former world champion Nien Chin Chen from Taiwan on Friday, which gave a huge boost to her game.

After the match, she spoke to a Indian media outlet saying, “Feeling very good after winning the quarter-final, next up is my semi-final. I will definitely try to do better than this in the semi-final. I want to try and win the gold medal for India.” 

The boxer has already scripted history for India at the Olympics and whatever she does here is an addition to her talent and her will to prove herself to the world. But do know it is not just Lovlina who is scripting history for the country at the Tokyo games. Another youngster Kamalpreet Kaur is all set to grab all the eyes after she qualified for the finals in Discus throw.  

This was not only her personal best but one of the best performances by any Indian in the event. She qualified for the finals on Saturday by bagging the second piston among the nest Discus throwers of the world. 

The 25-year-old athlete competing in qualification B threw the discus to a distance of 64m and became only the second of the two automatic qualifiers for the final round. The first one who qualified for the finals was American Valarie Allman with a throw of 66.42m. 

The young athlete has been terrific for this year having crossed the 65m mark twice this year and this qualification round result will only boost her confidence further as she will hope for a podium finish for India.
