Actor Prakash Raj Booked By Police For ‘Mocking’ Chandrayaan-3 Mission

A complaint has been filed against actor Prakash Raj in Karnataka’s Bagalkot district for a social media post that allegedly mocked India’s Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission.

In his post, he shared a caricature and captioned it in a way that appeared to make fun of the mission. Hindu organization leaders lodged the complaint at Banahatti police station, demanding action.

The backlash against Raj grew as people believed that the Chandrayaan-3 mission is a matter of national pride.

The mission, led by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), aims to land on the moon’s south pole, with live coverage available on ISRO’s platforms on August 23.

Prakash Raj later clarified on Twitter that his comments were intended as a joke and referred to a previous joke about a “Kerala Chaiwala.”

He is a political activist who has been critical of the ruling BJP Party. He has also been associated with the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Aam Aadmi Party.

He contested in the 2019 Indian general election as an independent candidate for the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency, but lost the election.

In recent months, Raj has been vocal against the 3 agricultural laws passed by the BJP government. He has also been critical of the BJP’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s important to express criticism towards political parties, but mocking one’s own country’s achievements crosses a line.

It’s acceptable to disagree with a government’s actions, but mocking national achievements is neither acceptable nor tolerable. Especially when the whole world is praising your country’s genuine & successful efforts.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission is a significant milestone for India, showcasing the nation’s advancements in space exploration.

While citizens (including celebrities or leaders) are entitled to their opinions, it’s crucial to maintain a respectful attitude towards the achievements and pride of one’s country.

India’s Chandrayaan-3 is set to successfully land on the Moon’s south pole, making India the first country in the world to reach this lunar region.

Meanwhile, Russia’s lunar mission, Luna-25, unfortunately crashed. However, India’s mission is expected to be a success within a few hours.
