Abhay Singh Wins HCL SRFI Indian Tour-Jodhpur Leg

Indian Squash player Abhay Singh won the 5th singles’ title this year. He was also in the Indian Mens’ Team who won Gold medal at the Asian Team Championship this month.

Abhay Singh defeated top seed and former No. 14 in the world Zahed Salem in the HCL PSA Challenger squash tournament final on Monday at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur with a high caliber performance. The score was 13-11, 7-11, 11-9, and 11-8 for Singh.

Abhay’s victory in the final was a class act, and he displayed great bravery in taking on a fierce opponent. After winning the Chennai leg, it was the second victory in a row for Abhay in the Indian circuit.

Abhay established the tone for the match by winning the opening game, and despite Salem fighting back to take the lead 5-0 in the second match, Abhay was able to equalize and move forward at key moments to secure a deserved victory.

Amina Orfi of Egypt, the global junior champion, defeated top-seeded Aira Azman of Malaysia in the women’s final by scores of 11-6, 11-9, and 12-10. Amina improved her performance to reach the finish line quickly.

“I’d like to soon be among the top-50. The juniors’ game is not this one. They play very patiently, ” Amina, the tournament’s youngest participant, stated.

Yuvrani Gayatri Rajye of Jodhpur presented awards to the victors, and a number of other officials were also present. Cyrus Poncha, Secretary of the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI), Rajat Chandolia, Associate Vice President and Head of HCL Brand, Mrs. Bhuvneshwari Kumari, a 16-time National Champion and the winner of renowned honors including the Padma Shri and Arjuna Award, were also present.

The winners expressed their joy at taking home the trophy and their certainty that their performance on this PSA Challenger tour will help them in future events.

48 players from 9 nations, including Malaysia, Hong Kong, Germany, Sri Lanka, Egypt, and India, participated in the tournament. 

Abhay Singh, Akanksha Salunkhe, Cheng Nga Ching, Zahed Salem, Aira Azman, and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu were a few of the important participants.
