Union Home minister Amit Shah accused Congress of colluding in the security breach because of their hatred towards PM Modi. Subsequently, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala accused the BJP of playing the political drama. Surjewala addressed a virtual press conference. Surjewala claimed that 10,000 security personnel were deployed at the Ferozepur to receive the Prime Minister.
Randeep Singh Surjewala claimed that the BJP already knew that the farmers were opposing PM Modi’s visit. He further said that Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat had two rounds of negotiations with KMSC before PM Modi’s arrival in Ferozepur.
Union Minister Smriti Irani also hit out at the Punjab government and the Congress over negligence in PM Modi’s security. She said that the Congress party hates Prime Minister Narendra Modi so they try to harm the Prime Minister of India.
However, Randeep Singh Surjewala said that farmers are not terrorists. He asked, “What should the police have done? Should the farmers have been shot dead?” Raghav Chadha of AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) said, “Any lapse in security of the Prime Minister is unacceptable.”
Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi said there was “no threat” to the life of the Prime Minister. He also claimed that the Prime Minister was informed beforehand about the protest on the route.
The breach of security was caused by farm protesters who had blocked the road in Ferozepur. BKU (Bharat Kisan Union) recently admitted its role in blocking the PM’s route. The union confirmed that the PM’s route information was leaked. Modi was scheduled to visit Ferozepur on Wednesday.
