2 Shiv Senas Mark Party’s Foundation Day At Separate Events
There was a time in Maharashtra, when a powerful political party called Shiv Sena used to rule. The party was founded by a prominent leader named Bal Thackeray, who was known for his regional and Hindu pride. Shiv Sena became a force to be reckoned with, championing the causes of the people.
However, as time went on, differences arose within the party. Last year, there was a big split. Two leaders emerged as the heads of separate factions. One was Eknath Shinde, and the other was Uddhav Thackeray, the son of Bal Thackeray.
This year 2023, on Shiv Sena’s foundation day, both factions decided to hold their own events to celebrate. Shinde’s group chose Goregaon as the venue, while Thackeray’s faction went with Sion.
The split had caused a lot of political drama. Shinde and his supporters rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray, leading to the downfall of the government they were a part of.
Shinde then joined forces with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and became the Chief Minister, while Devendra Fadnavis became the Deputy Chief Minister.
The Election Commission of India recognized Shinde’s faction as the official Shiv Sena, granting them the party’s symbol, which is the ‘Bow and Arrow’. But Thackeray and his loyalists disagreed, claiming that they were the true Shiv Sena. They even took the matter to the Supreme Court which is still in the court.
The foundation day celebrations became a battleground for the two factions to assert their claim on Bal Thackeray’s legacy.
Shinde’s son, Shrikant Shinde, promised to bring together party workers from all over the state for their event. They even planned to show a film highlighting the achievements of Shiv Sena’s government.
All of this happened with elections on the horizon. The state assembly and Lok Sabha elections were due next year, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections were also scheduled for this year. So, the stakes were high for both factions.

The foundation day celebrations showcased the power struggle between Shinde and Thackeray. They were trying to prove that they were the true inheritors of Bal Thackeray’s legacy, all while preparing for the upcoming elections that would determine the future of Maharashtra.
And thus, the Shiv Sena’s foundation day and its divided factions came to a confusion for people, leaving them to wait and see how the political landscape would unfold in Maharashtra.
