YouTubers Contributes Over ₹10,000 Crore To India’s GDP In 2021

Indian YouTube content creators have contributed more than ₹10,000 crore to the country’s GDP. This ecosystem supported over 7.5 lakhs full-time equivalent jobs last year.

YouTube’s creative ecosystem has contributed more than Rs 10,000 crore to India’s GDP and supported more 750,000 equivalent jobs in the country by 2021, according to the Google-owned company. 

YouTube also announced that Courses would be available in beta in 2023. Courses is a new product that will provide a richer learning experience to viewers and allow creators to make money.

Ajay Vidyasagar (Director-South, SouthEast Asia, and APAC Emerging Markets), YouTube, stated, 

“We are thrilled that YouTube’s creative eco-system continues to power India’s creator economy, supporting new jobs and opportunities across the length of the country.”

These opportunities have allowed creators to unlock monetisation possibilities, which has enabled many to turn their passions into sustainable careers. 

Ishan John Chatterjee (Director, India YouTube) stated that YouTube continues to invest in ways to help viewers learn valuable skills and access knowledge that will allow them to achieve their goals and pursue their dreams.

YouTube announced it would increase its efforts to collaborate with more healthcare institutions, including Narayana Manipal, Medanta and Shalby, to create and amplify credible content covering more than 100 medical conditions across Hindi, Marathi and Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, Gujarati and Bengali.

According to the company, it will also help partners achieve scale and efficiency when creating multilingual content. 

Qualified creators in India will be able to offer free or paid courses that provide structured, in-depth learning experiences for viewers. 

Courses will provide richer learning experiences for viewers and offer creators a new way to make money.

YouTube stated that LearnoHub and Speak English With Aishwarya will create courses in academic and vocational subjects in several Indian languages during the beta phase.
