Wrestling Federation of India Elections To Take Place On 6th July

The IOA has announced that the much-awaited elections of the Wrestling Federation of India will take place on July 6.

Retired high court judge Mahesh Mittal Kumar has been appointed as the returning officer by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to initiate the poll process. This announcement was made a day after the appointment.

It has been announced that the election results will be revealed on the same day. The Electoral College’s formation deadline has been set for June 19th, with each state and union territory required to submit two nominations. The scrutiny process will be finalized by June 22nd.

Every state and each union territory unit will be able to send two representatives to the upcoming meeting.

Each representative will have an equal say with one vote. IThe upcoming WFI elections will have an electoral college comprising 50 votes.

Several state bodies that were previously dissolved by the WFI have reportedly expressed their desire to participate in the upcoming elections.

The decision on who is eligible to vote and who is not will be made by the returning office after reviewing the credentials of the faction representatives.

Election nominations will open on June 23 and close on June 25, according to officials. Following the submission period, the nominations will be prepared and displayed. On June 28, the nomination papers will be scrutinized.

Candidates have been given a window to withdraw their nominations between June 28 and July 1. The final list of contesting candidates will then be released on July 2. Stay tuned for updates.

A retired judge has been assigned the crucial responsibility of determining which faction within the state bodies will be allowed to take part in the upcoming polls.

This comes after reports emerged that two separate state bodies in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Karnataka have submitted names for participation in the voters list for the elections.

In June 2022, the Executive Committee of WFI dissolved the state units of Karnataka, Haryana, and Maharashtra citing reasons such as “corruption and mismanagement“.

Controversy surrounds the upcoming elections as questions arise about the eligibility of family members and associates of external WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh to run for office.

The Sports Minister, Anurag Thakur, has made a promise to wrestlers that the government will prevent any of Brij Bhushan’s relatives from participating in the elections.

The outcome of the elections is uncertain until the eligible candidates associated with Brij Bhushan file their nomination.
