World Hindi Day: The World Embraces Hindi Words Including Yoga, Guru, Bindaas

Hindi, with over 60 crore speakers, is one of the most spoken languages globally. It’s even been spoken at the United Nations General Assembly, first in 1949.

World Hindi Day is a special celebration held every year on January 10th. It’s a day when people from all over the world come together to honor the Hindi language.

This day was chosen because it’s the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference held in 1975 in Nagpur, India. In 2006, officially declared January 10th as World Hindi Day.

The main reason we celebrate World Hindi Day is to spread awareness about Hindi and its importance. It’s not just celebrated in India but in many countries across the world. This day is not just about the language; it’s also about the culture and heritage that come with it.

Many embassies and cultural centers around the world hold cultural programs like dance, music, and plays that show the rich culture of India. There are also language competitions, debates, and quizzes to encourage people to use and learn Hindi.

In India, the celebration is even more vibrant. Schools and colleges hold various contests, and there are film festivals and music shows too.

The Indian government, through initiatives like the Central Hindi Directorate and Hindi Chairs in foreign universities, works hard to promote Hindi globally.

An interesting part of this celebration is how Hindi words have been included in the English language, including the Oxford Dictionary.

Several words like “Yoga,” “Jungle,” “Guru,” “Achcha,” “Jugaad,” “Dost,” “Dukaan,” and “Bindaas” are now commonly used in several countries. You can analyze how the Hindi language has crossed borders and become a part of different cultures worldwide.

It highlights the beauty and diversity of Hindi and its role in bringing communities together. So, on this World Hindi Day 2024, let’s appreciate and celebrate the simplicity and richness of the Hindi language.
