The Indian govt is consistently working towards empowering women. The Women’s Reservation Bill is to set gender equality in the country’s decision making.
The Women’s Reservation Bill is a proposed law that if passed in the parliament, there will be a new law which reserves 33% of seats in the Lok Sabha (India’s lower house of Parliament) and state legislative assemblies for women.
This bill is extremely important for all of us because it will promote gender equality and increase women’s participation in politics.
It will address the underrepresentation of women in India’s political landscape. It will give women a fair chance to be elected to important decision-making positions.
The history of this bill goes back several decades. It was first introduced in the Rajya Sabha (the upper house of Parliament) in 1996 but faced significant opposition and was not passed. Over the years, there have been numerous attempts to pass it, but the bill kept facing roadblocks.
The Modi government has been working towards providing women with equal opportunities and promoting their participation in various ways.

The Lok Sabha, which is the lower house of Parliament, recently passed the Women’s Reservation Bill. It received strong support, with 454 votes in favor and only two were against it. This happened during a special session of Parliament marking India’s 75th anniversary of independence.
The Rajya Sabha is the next step in the legislative process for the bill. Currently the bill is scheduled to be presented there for discussion.
Actresses Kangana Ranaut, Esha Gupta, and a few other celebrities also supported the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament. They were among various women from different fields who visited the new Parliament building.
Kangana Ranaut called it a historic day and thanked Prime Minister Modi for focusing on women’s empowerment. She mentioned her role as an air force pilot in an upcoming film to highlight women’s expanding roles.
Esha Gupta also praised the bill as a progressive move and highlighted PM Modi’s effort. She also spoke about the importance of women’s voices and how this bill is going to strengthen women’s rights across the country.
Several other notable personalities like wrestler Geetika Jakhar and actor Sulakhyana Barua were also a part of this historic moment.
