The parliament winter session that started on November 29 this year is scheduled to end today, a day ahead of the scheduled day of December 23.
On Tuesday, the Rajya Sabha had passed a few bills including a bill to link Aadhaar with voter ID, a day after the reform was approved in the Lok Sabha.
However, the Lower House seemed stressful when compared to the other side. The discussion regarding the bill that aims to change the current legal age of marriage from 18 to 21 years was stretched longer than the other. The bill was introduced on Monday and was sent to the parliamentary committee for scrutiny.
The Rajya Sabha chairman has expressed his displeasure with the way the session ended and how certain discussions were held. “I’m not happy to share with you that the House functioned much below its potential. I urged all of you to collectively and individually reflect,” he said.
The session oversaw 18 sittings where they saw some of the key legislation either being transformed or introduced. The most controversial of the lot was repealing the Farm laws after one year of its enforcement. The laws were introduced in September last year but it was met with large-scale protests and demonstrations by farmers.
This time. Lok Sabha saw productivity of 82 percent while Rajya Sabha seemed on the lower side with 47% productivity in the winter session of the Parliament, concluded the Union parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi.
Things became disturbing when 12 of the Rajya Sabha MPs were suspended ahead of the session for their behavior during the monsoon session. Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition, Rajya Sabha, said that it was a deliberate attempt by the government to suspend the MPs so that certain bills could be passed easily and the house could be run easily as per the convenience of the ruling party.
