Will Govt Introduce NCT Delhi Services Bill In Lok Sabha Today?

Home Minister Amit Shah was going to introduce a bill today that will replace an ordinance from May 19. The bill aims to take control of the bureaucracy away from the Delhi government, going against a Supreme Court decision.

The bill has been circulated among MPs and is expected to pass in the Lok Sabha. However, this move may increase tensions between the government and the opposition, led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The opposition wants the bill to be delayed until a no-trust vote is held, but the government believes important bills should not be deferred.

The success of the bill in the Rajya Sabha will depend on the response of parties like YSR Congress, BJD, and Telugu Desam Party.

The bill will have the same provisions as the May 19 ordinance, giving the Delhi chief minister authority over appointments and postings of senior officers. The BJP-led NDA will need support from regional parties, such as YSRCP, to pass the bill in the Rajya Sabha.

There was a significant development regarding the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill. This bill aims to give the central government more control over services and the appointment of officers in Delhi.

The bill had been approved by the Union Cabinet earlier, which replaced a previous ordinance brought by the Centre. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sessions were disrupted by opposition members who were protesting against the bill and raising slogans.

The BJP leader, Parvesh Verma, stated that the ordinance was beneficial for the people of Delhi, and the Chief Minister should welcome the additional powers being granted to him by the central government.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pralhad Joshi, assured that a no-confidence motion would be taken up within ten working days, indicating that the government was ready to face criticism and challenges to their proposed bill.

Amid the disruptions, Leader of the House, Piyush Goyal, announced that the government is willing to discuss issues related to Manipur. However, the opposition seemed resistant and reluctant to participate in discussions.

Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister, criticized the opposition for avoiding discussions and accused them of engaging in political games.

He urged them to participate in the parliamentary process and engage in meaningful talks rather than running away from discussions.

The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, which could give more control to the central government over Delhi’s services and officer appointments, was not listed for discussion on the day in question.
