Will ‘Adani Data Networks’ Enter Telecom Market After Getting 5G License?

Adani Group’s subsidiary – Adani Data Networks Limited (ADNL) has been granted a full fledged license for telecom services across the country in 6 circles.

The most recent 5G spectrum auction saw participation from the Gautam Adani Group. According to recent sources, the corporation now has the authority to provide complete telecom services in India. This report has only been covered by a few mainstream media sources.

The Adani group had previously stated in a statement that –

“The newly-acquired 5G spectrum is intended to help develop a unified digital platform that would expedite the speed and extent of the Adani group’s digitalisation of its key infrastructure, primary industries and B2C business portfolio.”

According to a credible source, UL (AS) has been given to Adani Data Networks. According to another source, the permit was issued on Monday of this week.

Adani Group’s – Adani Data Networks hasn’t provided any information about launching a telecom network to compete with Jio and Airtel.

However it has already stated that it has no plans to provide retail telecom services and has bought 5G spectrum to build its own private 5G network.

It seems that Adani Group is not going to take on Jio, Airtel or Vi instead they are planning for something else. They may provide telecom services only to corporate entities or build data centers.

According to a different report, the Department of Telecommunications has granted the Adani Data Networks unified license only in six circles, including –

  • Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh,
  • Gujarat, Karnataka,
  • Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.

With that, the corporation is now qualified to provide both internet services and long-distance calls across its network.

In case you don’t know, Adani Data Networks Ltd (ADNL) paid Rs 212 crore for the license to use 400MHz of spectrum in the 26GHz millimeter wave band for a period of 20 years.

Back then, the corporation stated that it intended to use the airwaves for both its data centers and the super app it was developing to help industries ranging from gas retail to ports and energy distribution to airports. The full-fledged license will now support the company’s data center operations as well.
