‘Why Should India Apologise For BJP Bigots’: Telangana’s KTR Swipe Amid Arab Fury

Telangana Minister K T Rama Rao has targeted the centre over the backlash from the Arab countries over derogatory remarks by BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) spokespersons Nupur Sharma on Prophet Muhammad.

He said that BJP should apologise to Indians at home for spreading hatred and propaganda. On Twitter, he slammed BJP’s propaganda. He posted a series of tweets today and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He questioned why India as a country should apologise for the “hate speeches of BJP bigots”. He wrote on Twitter, “It is BJP that should apologise; not India as a Nation.” He also tagged PM Modi in his tweets.

Other opposition leaders also slammed BJP over this incident. Opposition leaders also said that India has not made any mistake for which it should apologise. They also blamed BJP for spreading propaganda against Muslims.

India is facing a backlash over Prophet remarks

India is facing a huge backlash from the Gulf countries over the remarks by Sharma. #BoycottIndia is trending in Arab countries on Twitter. In Saudi Arabia, #ArrestNupurSharma and #Stopinsulting_ProphetMuhammad hashtags have started trending on Twitter.

Gulf countries slam India

On Sunday, Gulf countries slammed India. The secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) issued a statement condemning Sharma’s remarks. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Iran strongly condemned the remarks, describing them as “Islamophobic”. Later on, BJP issued a circular saying that the party does not support such ideology or Islamophobia.

BJP suspends Nupur Sharma

BJP on Sunday suspended Sharma from the party’s primary membership and expelled its Delhi media head Naveen Kumar Jindal over the recent incident. Sharma was suspended on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police registered a case on a complaint by suspended Sharma in which she alleged that she received death threats over her remark on Prophet Muhammad. The complaint has been registered against unidentified people.
