Why Rajya Sabha Suspended AAP MP Sanjay Singh For Entire Monsoon Session?

Sanjay Singh, an MP from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remaining duration of the Monsoon session because he repeatedly violated the directions given by the chair.

The Rajya Sabha chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, named Singh for his disruptive behavior and warned him earlier.

During the session, when the House met at noon, Opposition members were demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi make a statement on the Manipur violence.

Amid the uproar, the chairman announced that the Question Hour would begin. Despite the chaos, the Question Hour continued for a few minutes.

However, Sanjay Singh moved to the well of the House (an area not designated for members during the session) and pointed it out at the chairman, which was against the rules.

When asked to return to his seat, he did not comply. Consequently, the chairman named Sanjay Singh for his disruptive behavior.

Following this, the Leader of the House, Piyush Goyal, moved a motion to suspend Sanjay Singh from the rest of the session. Goyal stated that Singh’s behavior was against the ethics and rules of the House and urged the chair to take action against him.

The motion was put to vote, and the majority of the House members approved it. As a result, Sanjay Singh was suspended as a member of the Rajya Sabha for the entire duration of the current session.

The proceedings were adjourned until 2 PM due to the continued uproar by Opposition members after the suspension.

Monsoon Session Day 4: Rajya Sabha Adjourned Till 12 Noon, Lok Sabha Till 2pm

During the fourth day of Parliament’s monsoon session in India, MPs from the 26-party opposition bloc refused to end their overnight protest.

They are demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the ongoing Manipur crisis, which involves ethnic clashes that started in May.

The opposition is also protesting the suspension of AAP’s Sanjay Singh from the Rajya Sabha, who had violated the Parliament rules.

The Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned by the chair, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, until 12 noon due to the continued ruckus caused by the opposition’s demands.

Similarly, the Lok Sabha (lower house of Parliament) was adjourned until 2 pm as the uproar over the Manipur issue persisted.

The opposition alliance ‘INDIA’, announced that they plan to bring a no-confidence motion against the Modi government in the Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, MPs from various opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha have moved notices seeking discussion on the Manipur crisis under Rule 267, which allows for suspension of regular business to address urgent matters.
