The appointment of Praveen Sood as the new director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is a momentous occasion, marking the recognition of a seasoned officer with a remarkable track record of achievements and contributions. 

Sood’s selection by the high-level committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, and leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, is a testament to his exceptional abilities and dedication to the service of the nation.

Throughout his illustrious career as a 1986-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Sood has consistently displayed unwavering commitment and courage.

Sood’s journey started in Mysore, where he served as Commissioner of Police between 2004 and 2007. It was during this tenure that he led a successful operation to apprehend terrorists of the Al Badr group, displaying immense bravery and tactical acumen. 

His efforts resulted in their conviction for waging war against the nation, highlighting his effectiveness in combating threats to national security.

Furthermore, Sood’s tenure as the additional commissioner of police (Traffic) for Bengaluru showcased his visionary leadership and dedication to public safety. 

He spearheaded the establishment of ‘Namma 100,’ an Emergency Response System, providing round-the-clock assistance through Emergency Response Vehicles (Hoysala). 

His commitment to the safety of women and children led to the creation of the ‘Suraksha’ App and the ‘Pink Hoysala’ initiative, offering targeted support during times of distress.

Sood’s exceptional administrative skills were also evident during his tenure as the managing director of the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation, where he revitalized the organization and significantly increased its turnover. 

His tireless efforts and innovative approaches earned him accolades such as the Chief Minister’s Gold Medal, Police Medal for Meritorious Service, and President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

While his appointment as CBI director has faced some criticism and controversy, Sood’s achievements and capabilities far outweigh any doubts.
