Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, said in a statement that India firmly condemns the OIC Secretariat’s “unwarranted and narrow-minded views” and that India treats all religions with the utmost respect.
Bagchi expressed regret that the OIC Secretariat had decided to make “motivated, misleading, and mischievous” statements once again.
Nupur Sharma‘s comments about Prophet Mohammad, according to India, “do not reflect” the views of the Indian government.
“This only exposes its divisive agenda being pursued at the behest of vested interests,” he added, urging the OIC Secretariat to abandon its communal mentality and treat all faiths and religions with respect.
In recent years, Nupur Sharma has been one of the BJP’s most prominent spokespersons, appearing on countless televised discussions.
She was the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s spokesman and leader. She was also a Youth Ambassador (affiliated with Teach for America).
Nupur Sharma, a Hindu College graduate, holds degrees in Economics and Law. She went on to get her LLM from the London School of Economics and has been involved in politics since she was in college.
Sharma also served as President of the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) on the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) platform, and her political career began with these associations.
Nupur Sharma has been a notable face of the BJP for a long time. In the party, he held a number of important positions:
Nupur Sharma stated on Twitter that she had no intention of hurting any community’s feelings.
The former BJP member further stated that her comments were made in the context of repeated insults to Hindu gods on television discussions.
Nupur Sharma posted a tweet on Twitter,
“I have been attending TV debates for the past many days where our Mahadev was being insulted and disrespected continuously.
It was mockingly being said that it is not Shivling but a fountain. The Shivling was also ridiculed by comparing it to roadside signs and poles in Delhi.
I could not tolerate this continuous insult and disrespect towards our Mahadev and I said some things in response to it.
If my words have caused discomfort or hurt religious feelings of anyone whatsoever, I hereby unconditionally withdraw my statement. It was never my intention to hurt anyone’s religious feelings.”
