Why Ghee, Pickles Are Not Allowed In Flight?

Have you ever wondered, why we can’t take certain items like ghee, oil, and pickles on flights, especially in our hand luggage? Now, when we think of these items, we usually just see them as food, right? But on a flight, they’re seen a bit differently, and there are good reasons for it.

Why Is Ghee Not Allowed In Flight?

Firstly, ghee and oil are not just regular food items. They’re actually highly inflammable because of their high-fat content. This means if there’s a fire on the plane, these items can make it much worse.

So, for safety, they’re not allowed in hand luggage. Imagine a small fire turning into a big one because of these items – that would be dangerous!

Why Are Pickles Not Allowed In Flight?

Now, about pickles. You might wonder, “It’s just pickle, what harm can it do?” But there’s a risk here too.

In an interview with the Times of India, an official from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security explained a serious concern. Terrorists could use pickle jars to hide explosives like PETN or RDX. This is a scary thought, as it could put everyone’s life at risk on the flight.

Another practical reason is less dramatic but still important. If pickle or oil leaks, it could make a big mess. Air hostesses will face a lot of trouble for this. It can dirty the seats and even spoil other passengers’ clothes too. Nobody wants to sit next to a pickle spill for hours, right?

As for carrying these items, each airline has its own rules. Some might allow ghee, but others might not. It often depends on the laws of different states and countries. Safety is always the top priority.

Is Pickle Allowed In Domestic Flights In India?

Now, what about pickles on domestic flights in India, it’s a bit tricky. Generally, pickles are not allowed in hand luggage due to the reasons I mentioned.

However, if you really need to take pickles, you might be able to put them in your checked luggage. But remember, this also depends on the airline’s rules. It’s best to check with the airline before you travel. They can tell you what’s allowed and what’s not, so you can plan accordingly.
