The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today raided the house of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in a case related to the new liquor policy .

The CBI has registered an FIR against Sisodia for alleged irregularities and corruption in the formulation and implementation of the liquor policy.

What are the allegations against Sisodia in the FIR and for what things the CBI is investigating him, let us know in detail.

What Was The New Delhi Liquor Policy?

To increase its revenue and curb liquor mafia and spurious liquor, the Delhi government had brought a new liquor policy last year .

Through this, the government had closed all its contracts and only private liquor shops and shops were left in the city. Again new licenses were issued for these shops.

Apart from this, the government had also allowed them to sell liquor at a discount.

Who Is Manish Sisodia?

Manish Sisodia is the Deputy Chief Minister of Government of Delhi. He is one of the top leaders of Aam Aadmi Party and very close to party’s president Arvind Kejriwal.

When Did The Corruption Allegations Start On Manish Sisodia?

Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar had received a proposal from the Excise Department in May to change the new liquor policy.

During its analysis, Kumar found some procedural lapses and irregularities in the new liquor policy, following which he sent a report on July 8 to Excise Minister Sisodia, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena.

Following this report, the Lieutenant Governor recommended a CBI inquiry into the matter and held Sisodia responsible for the corruption.

What Allegations Is The CBI Investigating?

Sisodia is accused of giving undue advantage to those who take license of liquor shops by taking commission.

In fact, the tender license fee of ₹144.36 crore of liquor companies was waived citing the Covid epidemic.

It is alleged that while taking this decision, Sisodia did not keep the cabinet in the loop nor did it have permission from the Lieutenant Governor.

The Lieutenant Governor alleges that this is possible only when Sisodia has been given a bribe and commission.

What Are The Other Allegations Against Manish Sisodia?

Sisodia is also accused of refunding Rs 30 crore to licensees who got licenses to sell liquor at the airport as they could not obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the airport authority. It is claimed that instead of refunding this decision, it should have been forfeited.

Apart from this, the import duty of ₹50 per box on foreign beer without permission was also removed, making foreign beer cheaper and causing loss to the exchequer.
