Why Did Govt Term Millets As ‘Sri Anna’ In The Union Budget?

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had termed the millets as ‘Sri Anna’ during the union budget speech. PM Modi has answered the strategic reason for this.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi explained why millets should be referred to as “Sri Anna,” as Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had stated in her budget speech.

Speaking at a public gathering in the Tumakuru area, he said that this name was adopted from Karnataka, where the millets are known as “Siri Dhaanya,” which is a slang term for “Sri Dhaanya.”

“Karnataka residents are aware of the value of “thick food grains” (millets). That’s why you all refer to it as “Siridhanya.”

By honoring the mood of the people of Karnataka, the nation is moving forward with millets “declared the prime minister.

“The millets will now be referred to as “Sri Anna” throughout the nation. “Sri Anna” refers to the finest grain of all the foods, “Modi added as he tried to engage voters in Karnataka, where assembly elections are scheduled for May.

In less than a month, the Prime Minister has made three trips to the state. On February 13, he is slated to open the Aero India exhibition here, and on February 27, he will dedicate the airport in Shivamogga, the district’s administrative center.

Raagi (Madiya), Navane (Foxtail Millet), Saame (Little Millet), Haraka (Kodo), Kooralu (Browntop Millet), Udalu (Barnyard Millet), Baragu (Proso Millet), Sajje (Pearl Millet), and Bili Jola were among the millet varieties produced in Karnataka, according to Modi (great millet).

As soon as the Prime Minister named the well-known dish made with Raagi, the audience cheered.

“Who can ever forget the flavor of Raagi Roti and Raagi Mudde? The development of “Sri Anna,” which would significantly aid marginal farmers in Karnataka’s drought-prone regions, is given a lot of attention in this year’s budget “Added Modi.

The word “Sri” generally translates to “divine favor,” and the word “Anna” to “food grain,” particularly rice. Thus, “Sri Anna ” refers to a cereal grain endowed with heavenly favor.

Millets are known as “Sri Dhaanya” in Karnataka as they are not only edible and nutritious, but also have a great deal of therapeutic potential, according to experts in agriculture.
