Why Did Ben Stokes Suddenly Retire From ODI Cricket?

England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes retired from ODI cricket. He led England to win the ODI World Cup in 2019. He will play his last ODI for England against South Africa.

Ben Stokes, the top all-around player for England, shocked everyone on Monday by announcing his retirement from One Day International cricket.

On Monday, he made this announcement on Twitter. The slick all-rounder, who helped England win the 2019 World Cup, made this choice after Sunday night’s ODI series defeat to India.

Stokes will play his final ODI tomorrow, July 19, at his home field in Durham. Stokes was just named England’s Test captain.

Let us inform you that Ben Stokes was crucial to England’s victory in the ODI World Cup. I will play my final one-day cricket match for England in Durham on Tuesday, he stated in a statement.

Why Did Ben Stokes Say Goodbye To ODI Cricket?

Stokes cited his inability to continue playing in all (3) formats as the reason for his decision to quit. It’s important to remember that Stokes was appointed England’s Test captain earlier this year.

He claimed that I have made the decision to stop using the ODI format. This choice has been quite challenging to make. He said,

“I have enjoyed every second of the match with my England teammates. We have traveled a remarkable route over this period.”

Ben Stokes Will Focus On Test Cricket Only

Ben Stokes continued his statement,

“With this choice, I believe that I am dedicated to contributing completely in the T20 format. I will give my all to Test cricket.

I want to wish more success to Matthew Mott, Jos Buttler, the players, and the support personnel. In the past seven years, white-ball cricket has advanced significantly, and the future is very promising.”

Stokes’ ODI Performance & Career

In addition to scoring 2,919 runs, including 3 centuries and 21 half-centuries, Stokes also claimed 74 wickets in the 2011 ODI match against Ireland.

The England team was victorious in their first 50-over world championship thanks to his unbeaten 84.
