Why China Is Acting Strange At the LCA With Indian Army?

Last updated on February 13th, 2023 at 04:42 pm

China has been blocking the movement of the Indian soldiers at their own side, at the Line of Actual Control (LAC). India has accused China’s People’s Liberation Army of doing so. There have been two separate instances where it was reported that Chinese and Indian army personnel literally punched each other, injuring on both sides.

There have been two separate instances of this in the Ladakh and Sikkim sectors in May this year.

China is a response, had said that in fact, it was Indian troops that had crossed the LAC into Chinese territory, resulting in the Chinese to respond back. In response, New Delhi confirmed that their troops had not crossed the LAC and any such claim was completely false.

Both instances happened in a span of a couple of days in May in which aggressive PLA patrols were stopped by Indian troops inside Indian territory, that China claims as its own. According to the Indian External Ministry, China on its side has recently undertaken activity that has led to hindering the normal patrol patterns of the Indian forces.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) added that Indian troops “scrupulously abide by the alignment” of the LAC and “all Indian activities are entirely on the Indian side of the LAC”. Strangely, Chinese troops are known to have significantly increased their presence in areas around Pangong Tso also and even brought in additional boats to the lake. Sources have confirmed that the Chinese side has erected a sizeable number of tents in the Galwan Valley area following which India has also sent reinforcements to keep a hawk-eye vigil in the area.

The reason for the Chinese build-up as of now is not very clear but the top brass in the Indian Army has kept a constant vigil over the area.
