WHO Declares End To COVID-19 Global Emergency, China Remains Under Risk

The WHO has declared that COVID-19 is no longer a global health emergency. But Chinese health officials stated that they’re still under the risk of pandemic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that COVID-19 no longer represents a global health emergency.

This marks a significant milestone towards the end of the pandemic, which has killed millions of people, disrupted economies, and devastated communities around the world.

However, the WHO has emphasized that COVID-19 is here to stay, and countries must continue to manage the virus along with other infectious diseases.

China, where the virus was first detected, remains at risk of COVID-19 despite the WHO’s declaration. China’s COVID response expert panel under the National Health Commission has stated that the country will continue to monitor mutations of the virus and strengthen vaccinations among high-risk and key groups. China will also seek to improve COVID-19 treatment capabilities to mitigate the impact of the virus.

China failed to maintain a “zero-tolerance” policy towards COVID-19 and started to live with the virus.

In February 2023, China’s top leaders claimed a “decisive victory” against COVID-19 and claimed to have the world’s lowest fatality rate. But as per several data & experts found that Beijing’s data is absolutely wrong.

Given that China was the origin of the virus, it will continue to be closely monitored for COVID-19 outbreaks and mutations. The country’s tried to manage the virus, including vaccination campaigns and improving treatment capabilities, but couldn’t handle the pandemic.

While the end of the global health emergency status is a positive sign, it does not mean that COVID-19 is no longer a threat to public health and underscores the need for continued vigilance and cooperation in managing the virus worldwide.
