WHO chief thanks PM Modi: Tedros Adhanon Ghebreyesus, WHO Chief tweeted thanking the PM Modi for his efforts to fight Covid-19 pandemic by supporting Cova, a vaccine that is initiated by WHO and Gavi.
He also welcomed India’s leading role in global health and universal health coverage. “The pandemic is an unprecedented challenge for the world, and we agreed to work shoulder to shoulder to end it,” Tedros tweeted.
He credited conversation with PM Modi calling it an ‘excellent’ approach. “We discussed the vast potential of traditional medicine for promoting health and wellness in the world. I also assured India’s support to WHO and the world community in the fight against Covid-19,” PM Modi tweeted.
A statement was issued by the Prime Minister’s Office disclosing the details of the conversation. It was revealed that Modi appreciated the role of WHO in facilitating a coordinated response for the ongoing pandemic.
The statement added that Modi also took note of not losing in the fight against other dangerous diseases. The Prime Minister also thanked WHO for its support in developing the health system of other developing nations.
The WHO chief also accepted these praises and added that the credit to all of this goes to the close and regular collaboration between the two parties. He also talked and appreciated India’s initiative under the Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat scheme and several campaigns against Tuberculosis.
The two reportedly discussed including the use of traditional medicines, especially Ayurveda, in modern medicinal practices. He took to twitter to credit the PM, thanking for a productive call on ways to strengthen the collaboration further.
