“When They Return From Manipur…”: Dare BJP To Meet Opposition MPs

A 21-member opposition delegation is currently in Manipur to assess the situation there. Ethnic violence has been raging in the northeastern state for almost three months.

The following is a list of the important story of opposition MPs’ visit to Manipur:

Manipur is the first visit of the leaders and MPs of the alliance I.N.D.I.A. to any state.

Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Gaurav Gogoi, Trinamool’s Sushmita Dev, DMK’s Kanimozhi, RJD’s Manoj Kumar Jha and JDU leader Rajeev Ranjan (Lalan) Singh are some of the other members of the delegation visiting burning Manipur.

On a two-day visit, the Opposition leaders arrived in Imphal this afternoon and took a helicopter to Churachandpur. According to sources, they will encounter civil society, women’s groups, and leaders of the Kuki tribe there.

Before returning to Imphal, where they will meet the Meitei community, the delegation will also visit relief camps and meet with victims of violence, according to sources.

In addition to criticizing the opposition lawmakers, the BJP has repeated the alleged mistreatment of women in Rajasthan and West Bengal. This is just for show. I want to ask Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury if he supports the crimes against women in his state of West Bengal when this I.N.D.I.A. returns from Manipur. Will these 20 I.N.D.I.A. (front) MPs also provide reports on Rajasthan and West Bengal? Union Minister Anurag Thakur questioned.

Gaurav Gogoi, a congressman, told PTI that they “will go to Manipur and discover the truth and will present that truth before Parliament.” Sushmita Dev of Trinamool said, “The government has failed, so we want to go there and see what solution can be found.” Manipur needs to be heard, according to RJD’s Manoj Jha, who added that his party is “trying to listen to the people of Manipur and understand their situation.” The Manipur issue has caused a stalemate in parliament since the Monsoon Session began this month, with the Opposition MPs demanding a lengthy discussion on it as well as a statement from the Prime Minister in parliament. However, the center has insisted that Amit Shah, the home minister, will address the opposition.

A no-confidence motion in the government has also been proposed by the Congress and will be debated in the parliament. The motion has been approved by the Lok Sabha Speaker, but a date for the no-trust vote has not yet been determined.

A delegation from the opposition is currently in Manipur, exactly one month after Congressman Rahul Gandhi visited there on June 29–30. His convoy was stopped on the first day of his visit, and from the state capital Imphal, he took a helicopter to the violent Churachandpur district.

The N Biren Singh administration, which has so far defied calls for resignation, has made the decision to call an assembly meeting for the end of this month or the beginning of August.

Since the violence started on May 3, at least 180 people have died and thousands have been forced to flee their homes.
