WhatsApp May Add Email Verification To Secure Accounts

WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is reportedly working on a new security feature for its platform. This feature aims to enhance the security of WhatsApp accounts through the use of email addresses. 

Although this functionality is still in development and not yet available to testers, it reflects WhatsApp’s commitment to providing users with stronger security measures.

The upcoming feature will allow users to link their email addresses from services like Gmail and Outlook to their WhatsApp accounts. This move is seen as an additional layer of security to safeguard user accounts. 

A screenshot shared in a report shows a new window where users can enter their email IDs. The text accompanying the screenshot explains that the email will be used for account protection and verification.

It’s important to note that this feature will be optional for users. Unlike the existing two-step verification process that involves an email address, this new feature seems to be focused on enhancing security without the additional verification step.

WhatsApp has been consistently introducing new updates and features to enhance user experience and security. 

For instance, the platform is rolling out animated avatars on Android, allowing users to send dynamic avatars in chats to make conversations more expressive. This feature is currently available to beta testers.

Additionally, WhatsApp recently launched a video message feature that is being gradually released worldwide. The platform is committed to keeping its users engaged and providing them with innovative tools for communication.

The latest security feature involving email addresses is still in the works and not yet accessible to testers. However, it showcases WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security measures and provide users with more options to protect their accounts.

Using an email address as an alternative login method can be more convenient in situations where users don’t have access to their phone numbers, such as when they lose their phone or SIM card. 

It provides an additional option for account verification, ensuring that users can access their accounts even when facing phone-related issues.

Email verification could simplify the process of account recovery. If users lose their devices or SIM cards, they can still regain access to their WhatsApp accounts by using their email addresses.
