What Is The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, Approved By Cabinet?

The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill, 2023 is a proposed law that aims to protect the personal data of individuals in India.

It has received approval from the Union Cabinet and will be presented in the upcoming session of Parliament.

The DPDP bill has gone through an extensive consultation process, considering feedback from various stakeholders.

Under this bill, entities that violate data protection norms may face penalties of up to ₹250 crore for each violation, which is a reduced amount from the previous draft.

The bill focuses on consent-based data collection and aims to prevent data breaches and violations. However, some experts and activists have raised concerns about certain provisions.

For a common citizen, the DPDP Bill is beneficial as it intends to protect their personal data from misuse and unauthorized access by companies or agencies.

It aims to ensure that individuals have control over their personal information and that organizations handle data responsibly.

By implementing stricter regulations and penalties, the bill aims to enhance data privacy and security in the digital age.

The objectives of the DPDP Bill are to protect citizens’ personal data, promote transparency in data handling activities, and establish accountability for online companies & businesses.

The bill will provide citizens more control over their personal information and create a safer digital environment.

The DPDP Bill is still in its draft form, so it is not yet clear how it will act for data protection laws for global companies.

However, it is clear that India is taking steps to protect the privacy of its citizens, and the DPDP Bill could have a significant impact on the way that data is collected and used in India.
