What Does Pakistan Mean When It Wants India To Forget The Past And Move Ahead Together?

Speaking over an event in Islamabad, the Pakistan Army Chief has been the first to waiving a white flag of peace. Looking (finally) at the larger picture, he suggested that it was time that India and Pakistan buried the past and worked out a solution for lasting peace.

Ironically, post the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) last month, the Pakistan PM no Khan had said that if India wanted a peaceful solution, it would have to the first one to come forward. But politically speaking, this is only in favour of India and Pakistan, if they want to develop solid trade relations with South and Central Asia.

Pakistan’s Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa said that resolution of the Kashmir dispute through peaceful means is the only way forward. War should not be the answer to everything like t has been a policy for them and China together. “Unsettled issues in South Asia are dragging the entire region back into poverty and under development,” he added.

Maybe, that in his 13 minute speech, he did not show his desperation enough but it is evident that more than India, Pakistan stands to achieve more from this mending of relations. If it does not do anything, it will soon see itself become a colony of China, political analysts have suggested.

Getting Pakistan into its corner would also mean less control by Turkey or Iran, which have used religion as a scapegoat to get a footing into Pakistan, playing volley with its economy and trade sensibilities. For every trade agreement that Islamabad signs, it is selling its soul bit by bit to Middle Eastern powers.

Indian folks could be angry on this decision, because there is no knowing when Islamabad goes back on its statement. Too many lives have been lost for forgiveness to come when the Army Chief says, “India should bury the past and move on.”
