West Bengal Bandh, A Calls for CM Mamata Banerjee’s Resignation

West Bengal is once again losing its peace, this time the reason is not loot, dacoity, or any high-profile political matter, the reason is the legitimate demand for justice. Justice to save womanhood in this world, justice to a brutal rape and murder case, justice to save the future of our girls here!

To ask for this justice BJP has called for the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The situation escalated when police used tear gas, water cannons, and lathi charges to disperse a march to the state secretariat, ‘Nabanna.’

Know about the West Bengal bandh:

The BJP has declared a 12-hour bandh, scheduled from 6 am to 6 pm, in response to the police’s actions during the recent march to ‘Nabanna,’ the state secretariat. This bandh follows the violent clashes between protesters and the police, who used water cannons, tear gas, and lathi charges to disperse the crowd.

The protest  ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ was initiated by ‘Paschim Banga Chhatra Samaj.’ It is an unregistered student organization in Bengal,  ‘Sangrami Joutha Mancha,’ a platform for state government employees also supported this bandh. 

The ruling Trinamool Congress has said that the BJP is supporting this protest. The aim of the BJP  is not to support rape cases but to gain political benefits in Bengal. 

Protesters are demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. This tragic incident has fueled public anger, leading to widespread protests across the state.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari claimed that more than 160 protesters, including 17 women, suffered injuries during the police action. The police reported that several of their officers were also injured in the clashes, highlighting the intensity of the confrontation.

Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Suvendu Adhikari has urged Governor CV Anand Bose to impose Presidential rule in West Bengal. He said that this step was necessary to restore order and end the growing unrest.

BJP state president and union minister Sukanta Majumdar justified the strike. He said that the failure of the government to respond to the demand of the public for justice left them with no choice. BJP state president also criticized the police for targeting citizens who were just asking for a safe environment for women.

The West Bengal government asked citizens to continue their usual activities, there is no bandh today. Chief Advisor Mamata Banerjee  Alapan Bandopadhyay announced that all government offices would remain open, and employees are required to report for duty on August 28. Failure to do so without a valid reason could result in consequences for unauthorized absence.

The Trinamool Congress has accused the BJP of using the bandh as a political tool to gain mileage, reiterating their stance that there “will be no bandh” on the scheduled day. They are actively working to ensure that normalcy is maintained across the state.

The rape and murder of the 31-year-old doctor on August 9 have caused a nationwide outcry. Junior doctors across the country have expressed their solidarity by refusing to treat non-emergency patients, demanding justice for the victim, and calling for better safety measures for women in hospitals.
