Hitting at Congress, Kishore said on Friday that party leaders who are ‘hoping’ for a party revival through mediation in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident are up for a “big disappointment”. He added that Congress has many “deep-rooted problems” that need to be handled for bringing the party back to the forefront of the Indian political scene. “People looking for a quick, spontaneous revival of GOP-led opposition based on #LakhimpurKheri incident are setting themselves up for a big disappointment. Unfortunately, there are no quick-fix solutions to the deep-rooted problems and structural weakness of GOP,” Kishor had tweeted on Friday.
The comments have triggered a war of words between Congress, the party seeking to hire Kishore, and Trinamool Congress (TMC), which was the beneficiary of Kishore’s strategies registering a win in recent West Bengal elections.
In a counter-attack to Prashant Kishore’s tweet, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel tweeted the same afternoon, “People looking for a “national” alternative based on poaching INC functionaries who can’t win even their own seats is in for a big disappointment. Unfortunately, to become a national alternative deep-rooted and concerted efforts are needed and there are no quick-fix solutions.”
The Twitter “war of words” doesn’t end here. TMC’s official Twitter handle stated later in the day, “Rich words coming from a first-time CM. Punching above your weight doesn’t bring honor to you, Mr. @bhupeshbaghel. What a shoddy attempt to please the high command! By the way, is @INCIndia going to try to erase the historical defeat at Amethi through yet another Twitter Trend?” Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are seen trying to bask the maximum advantage from the Lakhimpur Kheri incident of ramming farmers and killing eight of them and are seen going out and about aggressively. The act being celebrated by a section of Congress leaders who seem encouraged by Congress finally stepping up, Kishore reminded them that this is not going to bring back the glory of national party.
