Virat Kohli pens down an emotional note as he announces stepping down as test skipper after defeat against the South Africa side.
While expressing his decision he said that every phase has come to a halut at some stage and he feels, this is time he feels stepping down as the test captain for the Indian men’s cricket team.
He took to twitter to reveal the major news, which was already being expected by many of the insiders as talks about him leaving the squad as captain were already doing rounds.
He took over charge from MS Dhoni as the full-time captain in 2014-15, which was incidentally the time when the team suffered defeat against Australia under Dhoni’s captaincy. The former test skipper has won 40 wins in 68 matches and with this Kohli ends his captaincy stint. He is known to be the most successful captain in the longest format.
In the letter, the skipper stated that he would like to thank the Board of Cricket of Council India along with former Head Coach and former skipper MS Dhoni.
Since he took over the test captaincy, India became a formidable force in the test world and started to come across as the most sought after team in the longest format.
He added, “I have absolute clarity in my heart and I cannot be dishonest to my team.” He also added that the teammates, and others involved in this journey have made this journey so memorable and beautiful for him.
After Kohli, it is expected that Rohit Sharma, who was recently appointed as the vice-captain in the format, will be promoted up the order. With the test, Sharma will be all-format captain for the Indian side.
