India batsman Virat Kohli, who is playing his 100th Test match, has been felicitated for his 100th Test appearance by the head coach Rahul Dravid on Friday.
Kohli said that the upcoming generations would be happy for him that he achieved the landmark in his career. He achieved this feat in the first Test of the two-match series against Sri Lanka. The series began on Friday in Mohali, Punjab. It is Rohit Sharma’s first match as Test captain. The match is important for Indian cricket as this is the 100th match of Kohli. The match also happens to be the first Test match of the two-match India-Sri Lanka Test series.
Kohli was felicitated before the start of the match where Kohli’s wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma was also present. Dravid said, “It’s well deserved, well earned.” Kohli expressed his happiness and said, “It is a special moment for me. My wife and my brother are here. Everyone is very proud.” Kohli added, “The one takeaway the next generation can take from me is that I played 100 games in the purest format.”
Kohli also thanked the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). Subsequently, the BCCI wrote on Twitter to congratulate Kohli. Kohli becomes only the 71st cricketer to get to 100 Tests. India won 58. 82 per cent matches under him. Kohli is also the fourth captain ever to win 40 Tests.
Meanwhile, India won the toss and chose to bat first. Indian team includes Rohit Sharma(c), Mayank Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant(w), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jayant Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah.
Sri Lankan team includes Dimuth Karunaratne(c), Lahiru Thirimanne, Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka, Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya de Silva, Niroshan Dickwella(w), Suranga Lakmal, Vishwa Fernando, Lasith Embuldeniya, and Lahiru Kumara.
