Viacom 18 Wins Broadcast Rights For Women’s IPL At ₹951 Crore

Viacom 18 has bagged the broadcast rights of WIPL (Women’s IPL) for 5-years. The media rights bid was ₹951 crore (₹7.09 crore per match) for 2023-27 period.

The BCCI announced on Monday that Viacom 18 had won the bidding for the media rights to the 2019 Women’s IPL for a hefty Rs 951 crore ($117 million) over five years, besting Sony and Disney Star.

On Monday, the BCCI held an auction for the T20 League in Mumbai. The three categories of global rights are linear (TV), digital, and hybrid (TV and digital). Separate rights are auctioned across areas for the men’s IPL.

For the next five years, the fee for each match will total Rs 7.09 crore, as per BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

The first week of March is probably when the premiere Women’s IPL will start. There will be five competing teams, and Mumbai will host each match.

Throughout a three-day auction that took place in 2022, Disney Star secured the TV rights for a five-year period beginning in 2023 while Viacom18 got the IPL internet rights for Rs 23,758 crore.

The media rights for the first five years of the forthcoming Women’s IPL have been awarded to Viacom 18, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah posted on Monday (January 16).

A five-team double round-robin competition will serve as the Women’s league’s inaugural season, which is tentatively planned for March 2023.

As Cricbuzz previously reported, the BCCI will hold the WIPL franchise auction on January 25.

The Manchester United group is one of the foreign organizations that has shown an interest in purchasing a team.

Cricket players have until January 26 to qualify for the player auction, which will take place in February.
