Delhi Chief Minister and AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) national convener Arvind Kejriwal sounded the poll bugle for the 2022 assembly elections in the hill state of Uttarakhand on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference in Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun, Kejriwal promised free electricity up to 300 units per month to every family in the state if AAP comes to power. “I’m giving you four guarantees with regard to electricity. This is not an election jumla,” the AAP chief said.
In his four-point guarantees, the Delhi CM assured that all old electricity bills will be waived off and free electricity will be given to farmers. Furthermore, he guaranteed that electricity will be available 24×7 and there will be no power cuts in Uttarakhand.
Earlier, Kejriwal promised 300 units of free electricity to every household in the poll-bound state of Punjab along with waiving off pending bills if AAP is voted to power.
Last year, the Delhi CM had promised a 100 percent subsidy to households consuming up to 200 units of electricity in the national capital. In addition, about 50 percent subsidy was provided to consumers using 201-400 units of electricity in Delhi.
“These things are guaranteed if we come to power in the state. If we can do it in Delhi, then why can’t we do it in Uttarakhand, which not only produces electricity but also gives it to other states,” the Delhi CM said during the press conference in Dehradun.
Responding to promises made by Kejriwal, the BJP slammed the Delhi CM for attempting to woo voters with freebies. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the BJP government has only one agenda – to steer the state on the path of development.
“If you visit Uttarakhand, you get to see the tremendous amount of work that has been done. So much work has been done on the all-weather road project. The Dehradun-Delhi highway has also been widened and improved,” the CM said in response to Kejriwal’s promise of freebies.
Earlier, BJP leader and Uttarakhand Power Minister Harak Singh Rawat announced that the state government will give free electricity up to 100 units to all households every month.
The 70 member-Legislative Assembly of Uttarakhand is scheduled to go to the polls in February-March 2022.
