Uttarakhand chief minister announces 3-day mourning after Death of General Bipin Rawat

Uttarakhand– The Uttarakhand government announced three day mourning in the wake of the death of Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat. He was part of the helicopter crash on Wednesday which killed 12 others along with him including his wife.

The whole nation was mourning his death yesterday and because the four star general belonged from Uttarakhand, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the morning calling it an ‘irreparable loss’. He was born in Pauri, a town in Garhwal region.

He was born to serve in the Indian army as it came to him from the very beginning as most of his family had people serving in the army. His father was a lieutenant-general in the Indian army at the time of his retirement. This made him all the more certain to join the army when he grew up.

He started his journey to the top honor with the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla which was followed by the famous Indian Military Academy in Dehradun. He had received a lot of awards including the more prestigious the ‘Sword of Honour’. From here, he did not look back and saw a glorious future in the Indian army.

He went on to hold the position of  general of the Indian Army. While in the position, he served various divisions and saw multiple postings before finally being promoted as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). After this, he held his current position as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), which was the first time that the country saw anyone being appointed for the position.

Rawat along with his wife and 11 other army officials died near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu. The news was first confirmed by the Indian Airforce and later on, the Prime Minister also expressed his condolences in the matter. While announcing the three day mourn, the Uttarakhand chief minister said, “The country will always remember the courageous decisions taken by General Bipin Rawat for the security of the borders and the contribution made by him to keep the morale of the armed forces always high.”
