Uttar Pradesh government: UP’s chief minister Yogi Adityanath has set a deadline of December 15 to increase state’s vaccine storage capacity to 2.03 lakh litres. On Wednesday, the top state health official said of government’s confidence in expanding the storage capacity from current 80,000 litres to 2.03L litres by the deadline. The DCGI approved Covid-19 vaccine will be stored in 35,000 facilities across U.P.
In this direction the CM has also directed his state officials to chalk out the cold chains for Covid-19 vaccine in accordance to the cold chains of polio vaccine. He has also instructed to increase security at these facilities.
Additional Health Chief Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad said, “We have to increase our storage capacity to 2.03 lakh litres, against the capacity of 80,000 litres at present. We are trying to achieve that by December 15 and we are hopeful that we will be able to reach there in time. The process has already started as we anticipated this soon after the talks about vaccines started at an international level. Every single district will have storage units, and in some districts the work has already been completed.”
“The storage facilities can be built at several levels, like at the district Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) office, or in some hospital. We are already expanding the existing facilities. The training of the vaccinators and technical staff is also going on. Everything is on track and most of the things will be completed by December 15. We can definitely say that by the time vaccines will arrive and vaccination will start, we will be fully ready,” he continued.
CM Yogi Adityanath noted that as an approved Covid-19 vaccine would soon arrive, the state and centre health ministries must be ready with a fool-proof plan to securely store them. For this CCTV cameras are to be installed at all the vaccine storage facilities. Security is also to be ensured and deployed with vehicles transporting Covid-19 vaccines along with GPS installed in all the vehicles.
A training session organized by the Centre was also attended by the Chief Minister for training of vaccination masters.
DGP (Director General of Police) Hitesh Chandra Awasthy said that state’s police is well equipped and ready to provide complete support and security for storage, and transportation of Covid-19 vaccines, as well as vaccination drives.
