UP Municipal Election Results 2023: Massive Win For BJP, Wins All 17 Seats

The BJP party & UP CM Yogi Adityanath are looking all set for a clean sweep in Uttar Pradesh. BJP is leading in all 17 mayoral seats of major districts.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised for a sweeping victory in the Uttar Pradesh urban local body (ULB) polls, leading on all 17 mayoral seats.

With trends indicating a significant advantage, the BJP has taken the lead in prominent cities such as Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Firozabad, Ayodhya, and Shahjahanpur. The polling for these elections took place in two phases on May 4 and May 11.

As counting of votes is currently underway, the BJP has already secured the mayor seat in Jhansi and is ahead in all other 16 mayoral seats, including Meerut, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Agra, Aligarh, Moradabad, Firozabad, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, and Shahjahanpur.

In Jhansi, BJP’s Bihari Lal Arya emerged victorious with 1,23,503 votes, defeating his closest rival from the Congress party, Arvind Kumar, by a margin of 83,587 votes.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of Mayawati secured the third position, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) led by Akhilesh Yadav came fourth. Notably, the mayor seat of Jhansi was reserved for the Scheduled Caste in these polls.

The BJP has also clinched mayoral seats in Saharanpur, Mathura, and Ayodhya. In Bareilly, BJP’s Umesh Gautam emerged victorious, defeating the independent candidate Iqbal Singh Tomar.

In Lucknow, BJP’s Sushma Kharakwal is currently leading against the Samajwadi Party’s Vandana Mishra, while Vinod Agarwal of the BJP is ahead of Raja Mohatsim Ahmed of the BSP in Mathura.

The electoral victory of the BJP is a significant achievement for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his party.

Under his leadership, the BJP has managed to secure the mayor seats in several key cities and is expected to dominate the ULBs.

This victory further solidifies Yogi Adityanath’s position as a prominent political figure in Uttar Pradesh.

In addition to the mayoral posts, elections were also held to select corporators, chairpersons, and members of nagar palika parishads and nagar panchayats. A total of 83,378 candidates contested for 14,522 positions in these elections.
