Gearing up for the upcoming state Assembly polls, the BJP named its organizational spearheads for the elections. They have named Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Pralhad Joshi, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Bhupender Yadav in charge for the contest in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Manipur respectively.
In addition, Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav will be in charge of the BJP elections in Manipur as well. PWD Minister Gajendra Shekhawat will be in charge of Punjab while former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has been made in charge of BJP in Goa.
The 2022 elections for UP and Uttarakhand are already scheduled to ghost assembly elections. All major political parties have already started preparing for it. BJP, which is the ruling party in both the states is claiming to repeat their 2017 victory. However, their path this year is expected to be filled with hurdles.
Similar to last time as 2017 elections of BJP, Yogi Adityanath will be once again made as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Yogi is said to be the face of BJP’s Hindutva ideology. Five years ago, without deciding who would be the Chief Minister after BJP’s win, an appointed monk and five-time MP from Gorakhpur was made the CM for the state.
After the hype and unrest of Farmer’s Protest in UP and Punjab, the BJP is at the receiving end of the farmers’ protests against three farm laws in Punjab, a state which is seen as the most affected by the stir. Prime challenge that remains for BJP are Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party with the Congress trying hard to shore up its base, the BJP is in direct contest with the Congress in Uttarakhand and Manipur.
