University Students Protest for Palestinian People
College students are protesting at universities all across America. They are angry about Israel fighting against Palestinian Israel’s Gaza. The protests are happening because the students want to support the Palestinian people.
At UCLA, there is a big protest camp set up on the campus grounds. Police told the protesters they had to leave or they might get arrested. Lots of police officers from different police departments are at UCLA.
The protesters want universities to stop working with companies that do business with Israel. They are mad about the war between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza.
Over 300 protesters were arrested at Columbia University and City College of New York on Tuesday night. Around 12 protesters got arrested at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Wednesday too.
At many universities, the protesters have set up tents on campus grounds. They chanted things like “Free Palestine” during the protests. Some protesters have refused to leave when police tell them to go.
Some protesters have caused damage to university buildings too. They have broken windows and graffiti on the walls. Universities are worried about keeping people safe with the protests happening.
Dartmouth College and the University of New Hampshire both had to call the state police to help with protests. The University of New Hampshire said they were worried about people from outside the university joining the protests and causing trouble.
Columbia University and City College of New York had to move final exams online because of the protests on those campuses.

Besides UCLA, Columbia, City College of New York, and University of Wisconsin-Madison, there have been protests at:
– Fordham University
– New York University
– University at Buffalo
– University of Texas at Austin
– University of Texas at Dallas
Police have arrested protesters at many of these schools. Some police departments have used pepper spray or rubber bullets on protesters.
The protests are likely to continue as students demand universities support Palestinians. Universities have to decide how to keep people safe while allowing peaceful protests.
