The new blood of politics, Jyotiraditya Scindia has put down three advisory groups covering all areas that are severely affected by Covid. As the Union Aviation minister, he has put together teams comprising industry leaders. These will be meeting him every month to appraise and advise him on critical steps to take to revive the aviation sector.
All this is being done to improve industry-government coordination as well. The intent is also to improve the financial health of the sector that will lead to better connectivity, both domestic and international.
One major step taken in this direction has been the takeover of the Mumbai International Airport by the Adani Group. This is a major development in making Indian aviation services top-notch.
The three advisory groups will comprise airlines, airport operators and MRO, cargo carriers as well as ground handling companies. “The groups shall meet regularly to deliberate upon issues and resolve challenges facing each sector. Orders have been issued for the same,” the aviation ministry tweeted recently.
These groups will also be supported by the minister of state, top officials from the ministry and organizations like AAI, DGCA, and AERA, and key representatives from the private sector.
After exiting the Congress Party, he joined BJP and was given an important portfolio to handle. There are many issues to handle at the aviation front but the most important one to handle on how to free up control on domestic airfares and capacity.
Since May 25, last year, when scheduled domestic flights resumed after a two-month lockdown-period suspension, the ministry has been stuck on how to decide what percentage of pre-Covid domestic flights airlines can operate as well as spelling out from time to time the domestic fare range.
