Its Terminal 2, also known as T2, has been recognized by UNESCO at the 2023 Prix Versailles, a prestigious global competition that celebrates outstanding architectural projects.
T2 has not only been named one of the ‘World’s Most Beautiful Airports,’ but it has also received the ‘World Special Prize for an Interior 2023.’ This is a proud moment for India, as Bengaluru airport is the only airport from our country to be honored in this way.
This recognition puts Bengaluru airport in the league of the top airports globally, showcasing our nation’s capability to blend modern design with functionality.
The award was decided by a panel of world judges, led by the renowned designer Elie Saab. This panel focuses on architectural excellence worldwide, and their selection of T2 reflects the airport’s commitment to exceptional design and architecture on a global scale.
Hari Marar, the Managing Director and CEO of Bengaluru International Airport Ltd, expressed immense pride in this achievement. He highlighted that Terminal 2 is a unique blend of art and technology, serving as a gateway that leaves a lasting impression on travelers.
T2 showcases the rich culture and offerings of our state and country, making it more than just a transit point but a place of memorable experiences.
The design of Terminal 2 is not only about aesthetics but also sustainability. It is designed to handle 25 million passengers annually, and it includes artfully curated art and decor, aiming to delight passengers.
Remarkably, T2 has achieved the world’s largest terminal pre-certified with a platinum lead rating by the US Green Building Council before it began operations.
Additionally, it has received the prestigious platinum certification under the IGBC Green New Building rating system, aligning with environmental responsibility.
