UN Calls On China To Respect Right To Peaceful Protests

The China govt. is suppressing the movements badly. The United Nations (UN) asked the Chinese govt. to respect the rights of peaceful protests & citizens.

People should be allowed right to assemble and to peacefully protest policies or laws or dictates that they take issue with,” WH national security advisor said

On Monday, the UN urged China to uphold the right to peaceful protests across the nation.

As Beijing strives to suppress the widespread series of protests and rallies, the UN asked the Chinese authorities not to imprison anyone just for taking part in the nonviolent agitation.

“We demand that the government handle protests in accordance with national and international standards for human rights.

For peacefully expressing their thoughts, nobody should ever be arbitrarily detained “UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Jeremy Laurence was quoted by the news agency AFP as stating.

Even the United States acknowledged earlier in the day that China’s zero-Covid policy is difficult to succeed and emphasized that everyone has the right to peacefully protest wherever in the world.

“Zero-COVID is not a policy we are seeking in the United States, as we have previously stated.

And as we have already stated, we believe the People’s Republic of China will find it extremely challenging to manage this virus using their zero-COVID strategy “According to a White House National Security Council official, PTI.

China holds protests across the country in opposition to the tight implementation of its zero-Covid policy.

After a citizen tests positive for Covid-19 under the new law, officials have barred apartment buildings or even roped off an entire neighborhood, which has caused a great deal of difficulty for the populace.

People in China blamed the lockdown, which had been in place in some areas for more than 3 months, for the deaths.

In Shanghai, the Chinese police have even blocked off a roadway where demonstrators have been camped out for the past two nights in preparation of more protests against the government’s strict measures to combat the Covid-19 epidemic there.

The Chinese government’s lockdown should be lifted, say protesters. Some groups, meanwhile, criticized censorship and demanded democracy and the overthrow of President Xi Jinping.
