Udhayanidhi Stalin, the youth wing secretary of The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has put to rest allegations against him focused on defaming the serving PM Narendra Modi.
The young Tamil actor has been pulled repeatedly in controversy over statements he has made in public. The latest is flake he has received over an allegation he made that the death of popular and respected politicians like Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, was due to undue pressure put on them by Narendra Modi. Stalin is said to have made this statement on March 31, during his election campaign in Dharapuram.
A notice was thereafter issued by Election Commission of India (ECI) to Stalin for which he said he never spoke in such a derogatory manner for the leader of opposing party BJP.
Tamil Nadu is one of the few states where BJP has not been able to get a stronghold and parties like DMK and Congress, have continued to rule the roost.
Responding to the notice, Udhaynidhi said that the election commission had failed to take the whole speech into consideration and had only referred to a couple of lines. He also stated that how the BJP had not furnished a copy of the complaint under a show-cause notice and demanded that the same be sent to him.
Adding power to his testimony he has asked the commission to furnish his whole transcript where he made a speech in Tamil. He intends to give a full explanation after he receives the complaint copy as well. Further, he has said that his comments do not in any way breach the Model Code of Conduct.
“At the outset, I deny that I have committed any breach of the Model Code of Conduct,” he said, adding that the clause referred by the Commission only prohibits criticism of private life of leaders and workers of other parties.
While issuing the notice to Udhayanidhi Stalin, the EC said it’s of the view that the contents of his speech violated the Model Code of Conduct.
