As per the survey, expatriates have expressed positive feelings about living in the UAE as they are able to manage their personal finances as well as work-life balance. In the study, a huge majority of expats living in the UAE have shown optimism about a more stable and stronger life in the country in the coming months despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. While 53 percent of UAE expats are expecting their income to increase with economic activities returning to pre-pandemic levels in the country, about 57 percent are expecting a better work life balance.
“The UAE being billed among the top five best places to live and work globally is inspiring and a clear indication of the huge potential that drives this country’s economy,” said Abdulfattah Sharaf, HSBC UAE CEO and head of international.
It is important to note that the Indian expatriate community serves as the largest regional diaspora in the UAE. At over 3.42 million, Indians constitute roughly about 30 percent of UAE’s population with a majority of them living in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Notably, the UAE’s continuous efforts to boost its infrastructure, quality of life, and regional inclusion have strengthened the rise in expats relocating to the country for personal and professional growth.
In the HSBC study, nearly 43 percent of the expats cited better quality of life as the dominant reason for decision to live in the UAE. For Indians, the UAE has been providing a unique blend of opportunities across key sectors to help them in progressing in their career.
Indian citizens enjoy a respected and remarkable life in the UAE with various cultural organisations catering to their needs. It is the robust UAE-India bilateral ties that facilitates generations of Indian families living in the Emirates, sharing their culture with the Emirati community.
This year’s Expat Explorer study by HSBC aims to examine the lives of people who relocated to foreign countries in order to provide insights into what expat living is like. The study covers the responses of more than 20,000 expatriates.
