The UAE has confirmed its commitment to combat against organized crime, international trafficking and illicit diffusion of small & light weapons.
Through the signature and ratification of the United Nations Convention against Non-National Organized Crime and its protocols, the United Arab Emirates reaffirmed its commitment to helping fight the illicit trade in small guns and light weapons on a global scale.
The UAE aims to prevent illicit activities around the globe and initiate anti-trafficking of illegal weapons.
The statement was stated during a speech by Mohamed Suhail Al Neyadi, Director General of the Office of Weapons and Dangerous Materials of the Supreme Council for National Security, before a session on wednesday in Tangiers, Morocco.
The event was arranged by the League of Arab States in collaboration with the European Union and the Program of Small Arms Survey, the International Criminal Police Organ, to counter the unlawful trafficking and proliferation of small and light weapons.
In the speech, the director general reviewed the initiatives taken by the UAE to strengthen the capacities of law enforcement agencies and implement UN Security Council resolutions regarding the export ban on the supply of arms to any nation.
The initiatives against which a decision has been made to avoid the delivery of arms, as well as stopping the diversion of weapons that enter the country’s territory to a location other than their intended use.
He also discussed the UAE’s commitment to branding and coding weapons with unique codes.
According to Muhammad Suhail Al Neyadi, in accordance with international legitimacy intended to confront the illegal trafficking and proliferation of light & small arms.
In assistance of everything that would accomplish international peace and security, the state has recognized national areas of focus for coordination on international requirements.
