Two week stir against price rise: Congress takes jibe on Centre’s policies

Maharashtra -On Sunday, November 14, Congress has launched a 15-day stir against rising inflation and price. The mass agitation programme has been kicked off with Jana Jagran Padayatra, an effort by Congress to take a dig at the Narendra Modi government’s national policies.

“Flagged off #JanJagranPadYatra organised by Mumbai Regional Congress Committee in Mumbai today to raise the voice of the millions of Indians suffering due to Modi Govt’s inability to control soaring inflation. We will continue this movement across the country,” tweeted party general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal. All state units of the national party are organizing such padyatras.

At a press conference, Venugopal charged up at the Centre, blaming it for the price rise that is destroying livelihoods and increasing people’s troubles, a direct result of “destruction of the economy, deepening recession, highest-ever unemployment rate, farm distress and escalating levels of poverty and hunger”. Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala called the Modi government the most “expensive regime”.

K.C Venugopal About Price Rise

Venugopal noted that in the last one year prices of mustard and other edible oils have doubled. Prices of seasonal vegetables have increased by 40-50 per cent in a month. The cost of subsidised LPG cylinder has surged by 50 per cent to Rs 900-1,000 in the last year. Petrol and diesel prices have also risen by Rs 34.38 and 24.38 to Rs 103.97 and Rs 86.67 per litre respectively in the last 18 months. Venugopal added that inflation and price rise is further burdening the common man already suffering from unprecedented levels of unemployment and job losses.
