Twitter Removes All Legacy Blue Ticks, Many Celebs Lost The Tags

Twitter is forcing its users to pay for its blue-ticks but most of the people, including celebrities, are not ready to pay for this subscription at all.

Twitter has removed all the legacy verified blue ticks from accounts that previously owned it. Those who still have the verified blue tick are the ones paying for Twitter Blue subscriptions, which costs $8 per month on the web and $11 a month on the mobile app.

Politicians like CM Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi, Actors Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Alia Bhatt, and cricketers like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have lost their verified blue ticks from their Twitter accounts.

Twitter announced that they will remove the blue tick from the so-called ‘notable’ accounts.

After Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, celebrities and all the people who were deemed as notable now had to subscribe to Twitter Blue to keep their verified blue ticks.

After tweaking its verification process, Twitter has warned users that they are at risk of impersonation. Twitter has warned that if users don’t subscribe to Twitter Blue, they will lose the verified tick from their account, starting April 1.

The ‘Blue tick’ was introduced in 2009 to help users identify celebrities, politicians, companies, and brands, and to help users identify genuine accounts of public interests.

Chaos prevailed on Twitter when Elon Musk removed all legacy verified accounts with Blue check marks but allowed some celebrities to retain it. In India, one has to pay Rs 900 a month (or Rs 9,400 a year) to get Blue Verified status.

Some celebrities have been offered a complimentary Twitter Blue subscription “on behalf of Musk”. Musk personally paid for William Shatner, LeBron James, and Stephen King.

The Pope got downgraded along with Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, and Oprah Winfrey. It is uncertain if Rihanna and Taylor Swift bought their verified blue ticks or if Musk allowed them to remain.

Many NBA players, like Stephen Curry, Zion Williamson, and Ja Morant, also lost their blue checks. Actress Halle Berry indicated she is not going to pay Musk for the Blue badge.
